Brian Johns Commits to Delivering the East Gwillimbury Hospital: "The Announcement is the Start, Not the Finish Line"

East Gwillimbury, ON, July 27, 2026 — Brian Johns, candidate for Mayor of East Gwillimbury, today announced a commitment to lead a sustained, community-driven effort to see Southlake Health's second acute care hospital built in East Gwillimbury, and to make sure the community is ready to support it.

"Getting the announcement was the milestone our community has worked toward for years," said Johns. "But an announcement is the start, not the finish line. Hospitals take years to plan, fund, and build, and they only get built when a community stays organized, stays loud, and stays at the table the entire way. That's the job I'm signing up for."

Johns committed to working with York Region, Southlake Health, and the Province to keep the project moving through the provincial capital planning process, and to advocating on behalf of East Gwillimbury residents to ensure the facility serves this community's needs as it is designed.

He also committed to mobilizing residents and community organizations behind the project through public awareness initiatives, community events, and support for local fundraising efforts, so East Gwillimbury is prepared to meet the community's role in bringing the hospital to life.

Johns committed to leveraging the Annual Mayor and Council's Award Program he has proposed as a community fundraising opportunity in support of the hospital, recognizing local residents while raising funds for the project, with full financial transparency and accountability for every dollar raised.

"A hospital in East Gwillimbury is more than a building. It's a cornerstone of our community's health, our pride, and our future," said Johns. "My commitment is simple: I will not let this project stall, and I will make sure our community is ready to do its part."
