Brian Johns Launches Campaign for Mayor Focused on Smart Growth and Respect for Taxpayers

Do the Work. Get Results. For the People.

Sharon, ON, May 11, 2026 — Brian Johns, a community leader and Ward 2 Councillor, today launched his campaign to become the next Mayor of East Gwillimbury.

"East Gwillimbury is at a pivotal moment. Our community is growing, our needs are changing, and the decisions made over the next term of Council will shape what East Gwillimbury looks like and how it feels to live here," said Johns. "Residents deserve a Mayor who is prepared, engaged, and willing to do the hard work of moving ideas from paper to reality."

Over the course of his campaign, Johns will release a detailed, action-ready platform — from respecting taxpayers, to protecting farmland, revitalizing our village cores, and fighting for the services our growing community deserves. Every priority in this plan is informed by Brian's experience on Council, his practical understanding of how municipal government works, and a commitment to responsible use of taxpayer dollars.

"My campaign is a reflection of four years of listening to residents, delivering results, engaging with community organizations, getting value-for-money for taxpayers, and recognizing both the constraints and the opportunities that exist within local government," added Johns. "Most importantly, it reflects my core ethos: that leadership means doing the work and getting results on day one."

Johns also announced The Positivity Pledge, a public commitment to conduct a principled, respectful, and solutions-focused campaign. The Pledge commits to no personal attacks, no misinformation, and no fear-based messaging. Johns intends to earn the support of his neighbours through shared values and hard work.

“Brian Johns is exactly who we need as East Gwillimbury's next Mayor,” said Joe Persechini. “His business experience, his experience on Council, and his Positivity Pledge make Brian the experienced choice for change this October. He deeply cares about the community and actually listens to people. Brian has my full support.”

Johns was born and raised in East Gwillimbury, attending Mount Albert Public School while growing up outside of Holt. He and his wife, Mariangela, and their two young children, Vittoria and Luca, are proud to call Sharon home.
